Praia da Rocha, Praia dos 3 Castelos, Praia dos Careanos, Praia do Vau and Praia do Alemão flight in Portimão – Algarve
Praia da Rocha, the beach next to Portimão marina and of Santa Catarina Fort.
The sun-drenched images of Lisbon which follow, captured so beautifully by Australian photographer Katie Mitchell, showcase this pretty capital to perfection. It is known for both the visual feast of sorbet colours and the quintessentially Portuguese tiles which are used on public buildings and private homes alike. These tiles, known as Azulejos meaning ‘polished stone’, will be instantly recognisable to anyone who has visited the city. They come in a myriad of colours and patterns and can be found decorating both the interior and exterior of buildings.
Taking the images of Lisbon as my starting point this week, I have interwoven photographs of Lisbon with interior images which celebrate the colours and patterns of this ancient city. Inspiration for great design really can be found everywhere you look . . .
We invite you to join us aboard the “Ophelia” for an unforgettable experience! During this full day cruise you can savour the stunning views offered by one of Europe’s most impressive coastlines. We depart from Portimão passing the pretty fishing village of Ferragudo and the historic castle which overlooks the beach. We cruise at ease towards the east, to Armação de Pêra. Don’t forget your camera to capture the beautiful coastal scenery along the way.
It’s fun, informative and takes you to parts of the Algarve that you would never find on your own. We highly recommend it.
The interior of this beautiful region is dotted with winding earthen tracks and tiny villages that allow you glimpses of a style and pace of life that is fast disappearing. Travelling in a convoy of 4 X 4 jeeps, you leave the coastal resorts behind and explore the white-washed villages, orange and lemon orchards and eucalyptus groves. You learn of the local flora and fauna, of the old traditions and customs still practiced in this area, of the secrets of harvesting the cork trees of their precious bark. You visit a small farm, sample some local honey and see where the “medronho” is distilled. Medronho is a very potent local drink made from the berries of the arbutus tree. It will apparently cure whatever ails you! The day includes a tasty lunch of chicken piri-piri in a local restaurant.
